Default Gonna play GW, what do I buy?

I was wondering if anyone could help me out figuring what I'm supposed to buy here. I want to start playing GW but I'm not sure if I'm supposed to buy Guild Wars or Guild Wars: Factions or both.

Anyone?

I would buy both but if you can't, buy GW first and buy factions later.

I had a whole post lined up, but Farrell hit the nail on the head.

welcome.

buy GW by all means.

there have been several threads recently and with a very few exceptions the vote for GW and not Factions for the starting game has been overwhelming

You can buy either one, the other, or both.

Most people will recommend (as do I) getting the original Guild Wars (AKA Prophecies) for those new to the game. The learning curve is much easier & you're not thrown in the deep end like in Factions. The Story line in Prophecies is better, the area is bigger & more enjoyable to play in. It's also a better foundation for basing your PvP play on, IMHO.

With the next chapter coming out at the end of October, you may want to skip Factions all together for now & go straight to Nightfall when it's released. (If you decide you're having a good time with GW, of course. LOL)

Cool thanks a bunch for all your help guys. Seems like GW has a nice community. I'm gonna go ahead and just buy GW for now, if I end up liking it I'll go ahead and buy factions / nightfall.
